This week, Iceland celebrates the first day of summer, also known as “Sumardagurinn fyrsti”, marking the end of winter and the onset of longer and brighter days filled with outdoor activities.
Before bidding farewell to spring, let’s revisit a memorable Páskafrí or Easter break when families unite for special moments. Our family seized the opportunity for a road trip with our vibrant 86-year-old mother-in-law, heading to the enchanting South Coast, often highlighted in tours offered by Around Iceland.
Our adventure kicked off with Skógafoss, a jaw-dropping waterfall straight out of a movie. As we approached, the thunderous roar of water crashing down hit us, and then, like magic, a rainbow appeared, painting the mist with vibrant hues. We were mesmerized, finding it hard to tear ourselves away from such a spectacular sight.
Continuing our journey, we reached Seljalandsfoss, renowned for its opportunity to walk behind the falls. However, snow covered the path, prompting us to enjoy a safer view. Standing nearby, feeling the mist caress our faces, we witnessed yet another rainbow, adding to the enchantment of the moment.
Amidst nature’s wonders, a profound sense of connection enveloped us, reminding us of the beauty amidst life’s chaos. These serene moments served as a respite, underscoring the simple joys that life offers.
Each waterfall and rainbow we encountered became integral to our family’s tapestry of memories. Beyond their visual appeal, they symbolized moments of connection and contemplation.
